Spartanburg Occupies GOP Debate at Wofford College

Republican Presidential Debate at Wofford College

On Saturday, November 12, 2011, Occupy Spartanburg members marched alongside union supporters from South Carolina American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) at the CBS News/National Journal Republican Presidential Debate held at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC.  Occupy Spartanburg members seized the opportunity to shout messages in support of “the 99 percent” as AFL-CIO members “lobbied for Republican leaders to end attacks on workers for exercising their collective bargaining and freedom of association rights,” according to this article.

Occupy Spartanburg’s presence was not an act of demonstration against any presidential candidates or the Republican Party, but instead to “give voice to the concerns of the American people,” as stated by Bobbie Buckner of Inman, SC.
